Train with the Masters Day

I just got back from "Training with the Masters", which is held at Sifu Francis Fong's Martial Arts Academy in Norcross, GA.

I had a great time, and trained 24 hours over the course of 3 days.  Even though my body still hurts, I had a really great time.

I was fortunate enough to train with Professor Pedro Sauer (from the Rickson Gracie Camp) in BJJ and Sifu Francis Fong in Wing Chun, on Day 1 of the event.

On days 2 and 3, I trained with Guro Dan Inosanto in JKD/Filipino Martial Arts/ and Silat, followed by Thai Boxing with Ajarn Chai.

Physically, I took a lot away from the seminar in terms of drills and techniques to pass on to my students; but more importantly than that, I gained a genuine appreciation for both the ability, and thoughtfulness of the people involved.

In a day an age where people are cynical and self-serving, it is refreshing to see people who are genuinely caring people that look to help others achieve their goals.  Each of the instructors involved are world-class instructors with hundreds if not thousands of students across the globe.  They are at the pinnacle of the Martial Arts world; yet they are approachable, helpful, humble, and respectful.

These traits can also be seen amongst their students.  Many of the people there were instructors and professional fighters, yet everyone was willing to help each other become better.

I can't wait to pass on the physical skills I learned to my students; but more importantly I hope to cultivate the same attitude of compassion and service that I experienced at Sifu Francis Fong's school.

I feel reallly blessed to have been part of this event, and I can't wait to go back again later this year.

Inosanto Instructor Seminar March 2010

Wow, what a great day.  9 hours of training at the Inosanto Academy in Marina Del Rey, CA.  My brain is officially mush.  I don't even remember my own name at this point, but I know that I had a great time.

It's like Disney World for Martial Artists.  Jun Fan/JKD, Filipino Martial Arts, Thai Boxing, and Silat; as well as BJJ training with John Jaques Machado.

I even got to see Professor Salem, my Savate Instructor.

This was just the first day, and I'm looking forward to doing it again tomorrow.

Special thanks to Simo Jen, and all the members of the ITP program for helping out and covering classes for me to make this trip possible.

In closing, I would just like to say how thankful I am to be part of such a great organization with so many helpful and caring people; and what a privilege it is to train with Guro Dan at the Inosanto Academy.
